Description of the outcome
I held my first workshop on social change in 2006 in Nagpur, India during “Communication for Change – an experiment in social change”. The experience was groundbreaking for me – creating connection and inspiration amongst hundreds of Indian Buddhists. Approaching ESF2008 I had a similar intention. Inspired by the name “Communication for Change”, I held a workshop on Thursday through the Swedish organization Peace In Our Hands. Thinking there would be around 15-20 participants, I was overwhelmed with excitement when more than 60 people showed up to listen and take action through Nonviolent Communication (NVC).
The workshop was a great experience for me as a workshop leader. I could sense the same curiosity in the group as I did in India two years earlier. The workshop was filmed by students of John Bauer Media High-School in Malmö. As far as outcomes are concerned the workshop brought me together with people from other organisations and areas of the world. About half of the group had previous experience with Nonviolent Communication. Some of the participants have contacted me afterwards and I hope there will be opportunities to work together along the path of social change.
To the organizers, Peace In Our Hands and the participants of “Communication for Change!” – a big THANK YOU!
