Research and access to life saving medicin - conflict of interest?

Research and access to life saving medicin - conflict of interest? - Alternatives to TRIPS and the existing regime Goal: Discuss new incentives and alternative ways to promote research on medicine and vaccinations for diseases that affect people in the South - based on the problems with TRIPS and the way the existing system of intellectual property rights favour research for western diseases. More than one-third of the world?s population lacks regular access to essential medicines. Rather than encouraging research to meet the vast need for essential medicine in the South, WTOs TRIPS agreement leads to a focus on the financially strong western markets and inflated prices on "new" medicine. We need a system that can ensure research on essential medicine and equal rights and access to life saving medicine. What mechanisms and sollutions are needed to secure access both in poor and rich countries?
