A new wall in Europe? Consequences of Schengen-enlargement 2007
In december 2007 nine new countries entered the Schengen area. Schengen is a synonym for abolition of border controls between the participating countries, which are mostly members of European Union. Schengen is a synonym for the “exclusive” area of European Union, but Schengen stands for a repressive system of "walling off" against the States, which aren´t members of European Union In our seminare we want to analyze und discuss critically (about) the "Schengen-System" and want to focus especially on the consequences for eastern european states. Main points: Schengen & civil rights (freedom of movement, High-Tec-„death“-borders, data collection SIS II, Schengen & socials rights ("wall of prosperity", employees-transfer from Non-Schengen-States to Schengen-states), Schengen & "mental" exclusion (2-class-society, discrimination)
