Human and citizen rights for everybody
The seminar consists of two parts: 1. Defending migrant workers' rights -- leftist perspectives One of the main reasons for migration is the will of individuals and families to improve their living conditions. Migration is mostly under strict controls, but precisely because of this the movement of people is bound to escape official surveillance. Hence, migrant workers' rights cannot be defended by restricting migration. What would be the best strategies for political left (and trade unions) for improving the status of migrants in Europe and uniting all people regardless of their country of origin? 2. Fighting nationalist populism and nationalism in Eastern Europe The workshop should inform about common and different problems of left forces in Hungary, Romania and Poland. It should also promote a necessary exchange of experiences and networking of activists in these countries and in other Eastern and Central European Countries.
