Popular/alternative education as a tool for change and mobilisation of people towards a fairer world. Goals like sustainable development, gender equality, human rights, fighting poverty, racism etc, need all of us to participate. Global elites working from above cannot do this. Shaping our joint future in Europe and in the world means helping ourselves and others to become truly capable of doing this.
The seminar will include short inputs with varying approaches, small group interactive-work and plenary sessions on:
Practical examples on education for change from different countries -
popular/alternative education about climate change, gender, fair trade, anti-racism,
north-south-cooperation and grassroot mobilisation; language for change; changing ourselves to help change in the world
What is already happening? how can we increase cooperation/networking between educational and social initiatives?
Can we jointly develop strategies for transforming the educational sector in Europe?
How can we cooperate to strengthen popular education/alternative education in the social forum process and in movements around the world?
Programme (changes still possible):
- short presentations of ideas/concepts/working methods and exchange of experiences
- discussion groups – small group work
- Where do we go from here? Networking – connecting the initiatives – new ideas?
