United to End Racism, together with Centrum Edukacji Obywatelskiej, FolesHillsfields Vision Project, and Listeners Without Borders, presents this interactive workshop.
In the world today we have ongoing and relentless war, and other forms of exploitation and oppression, causing great loss of life, physical damage, and emotional harm to the people who survive. We think that the motivations that drive people to try to dominate, economically exploit, fight wars to colonize others, and then rationalize these behaviors by seeing their targets as evil or inferior, all come from ways that those people have been hurt earlier in their lives. These times include incidents from earlier times of war and exploitation, as well as other distress incidents, and can be passed down from generation to generation. To end war, all of us, as individuals, must move forward; reach a wider spectrum of people, as well as greater numbers; build our collective understanding; and organize to make the world different from anything it has been before. We must also help people to recover from the hurts that result in violence and the justification of war. This workshop will demonstrate the process of engaged listening and emotional release used in Re-evaluation Counseling in order to free humans and society as a whole from the ongoing internal effects of hurtful experiences so that we may more effective work together toward a world without war. These tools can also be used to support people through difficult times, deal with burnout, and reclaim their full intelligence, power, and joy for life as we work toward a world without war and oppression. In the workshop participants will see the process demonstrated as well as have several opportunities to try out this process for themselves.
United to End Racism (UER) is an group of people of all ages and backgrounds, in thirty different countries, who are dedicated to eliminating racism in the world. We understand that eliminating racism is necessary for humankind to progress. We are committed to ending racism, and we support the efforts of other groups to accomplish this goal. UER is a project of the Re-evaluation Counseling Communities and was formed in 2001 as we prepared to participate in the United Nations World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa. The Re-evaluation Counseling Communities have been working to end racism since the seventies.
