United to End Racism, together with Centrum Edukacji Obywatelskiej, FolesHillsfields Vision Project, and Listeners Without Borders, presents this interactive workshop on Listening as a Tool in Ending Racism and other Oppressions: making our leadership, organizing, and movements stronger and more effective for ending oppression and building another world
Good policies and programs aren't enough to end racism, poverty, and other oppressions. To end racism, we must also heal the internal damage it has caused. This workshop presents tools for challenging and undoing racism's effects on our lives, families, and communities as we work to make change. (None of us escape racism's effects, but we can do something about it.) Learn how to tackle the confusions, anger, grief, and other emotional residue of racism and the many oppressions with which it intersects that thwart our effectiveness in our workplaces, our organizations, and other institutions. Learn a simple yet powerful process of engaged listening and emotional release of the hurts we've experienced from racism, as practiced in Re-evaluation Counseling (RC) by members of United to End Racism, a project of the RC Communities. These tools enhance our ability to eliminate all oppressions and provide a vehicle for continuing this work at home. In the workshop participants will see the process demonstrated as well as have several opportunities to try out this process for themselves.
United to End Racism (UER) is an group of people of all ages and backgrounds, in thirty different countries, who are dedicated to eliminating racism in the world. We understand that eliminating racism is necessary for humankind to progress. We are committed to ending racism, and we support the efforts of other groups to accomplish this goal. UER is a project of the Re-evaluation Counseling Communities and was formed in 2001 as we prepared to participate in the United Nations World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa. The Re-evaluation Counseling Communities have been working to end racism since the seventies.
